This is from the NHS Choice site.

Information specific to: Paroven.

About Paroven and how it works

This medicine is used to treat swollen legs. It helps reduce the leakage of fluid from capillaries and so reduces swelling caused by fluid build-up in the lower legs.

It is available as capsules that are taken by mouth.

You should NOTuse this medicine to treat a condition that has not been diagnosed by a healthcare professional.

Speak to your doctor if symptoms such as swelling or pain do not improve or if they get worse during treatment with this medicine.

I'd question the doctor and ask why he prescribed it. I looked in three different books I have and none suggest that this is ever used for WED. If he doesn't offer something else, switch to a new doctor if you can.
